Amid rising number of road accidents killing scores of migrant labourers trying to reach back to their homes, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, seeking permission to press 1,000 buses in service to transport the labourers safely.

Priyanka said the Congress party will bear the cost of the buses at a time when the migrants are finding it tough to reach homes safely.

“Lakhs of workers are trying to get back to their homes walking from various parts of country and there are not enough arrangements made for them. We wish to operate 500 buses each from Ghazipur and Noida borders,” Priyanka, the in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, wrote in the letter.

The “nation builders cannot be left to fend for themselves in such times,” she added.
